ROI, or Return on Investment, measures how much benefit a project delivers compared to its total cost. It’s one of the most common metrics used by project managers and stakeholders to determine whether a project is worth pursuing.
The ROI formula is:
ROI (%) = (Total Benefits − Total Costs) ÷ Total Costs × 100
If your total project benefits are $250,000 and your costs are $200,000, then:
ROI = (250,000 − 200,000) ÷ 200,000 × 100 = 25%
That means your project returns 25 cents in profit for every dollar spent.
