How Budget Overrun is Calculated

Budget Overrun (%) = ((Actual Cost − Planned Budget) ÷ Planned Budget) × 100. This percentage indicates how much your project exceeded the planned cost.

Example

If your planned budget was $100,000 and actual cost was $110,000: Overrun = ((110,000 − 100,000) ÷ 100,000) × 100 = 10% overrun.
